The Kubuntu distribution is a spin-off from Ubuntu, which aims to create a new user-friendly desktop system using the Linux operating system. Kubuntu comes with the KDE Plasma Desktop Environment installed by default and provides users with similar functionality and visual appearance (a 'look-and-feel') to other current popular operating systems such as Windows XP and Apple's Mac OS X.

Nix provides atomic upgrades and rollbacks, side-by-side installation of multiple versions of a package, multi-user support, per-user profiles, and improved conflicts resolution. It also has powerful user environment management which makes it easy to work with multiple profiles.
